BackWay was born from a journey - a journey that many people know, but whose stories are often left unheard. One of our co-founders undertook the journey of irregular migration from West Africa to Europe. Like many others who have taken this route, his journey was shaped by hope, uncertainty, resilience, difficult choices and the desire for a different future. But we noticed something: the people behind these journeys were often missing from the conversation.

Their experiences were reduced to statistics, headlines and labels, while the individuals, cultures, dreams and identities behind those stories remained largely unseen.

That is where BackWay began.

The name BackWay comes from the term used to describe the irregular migration route to Europe. We chose to reclaim that word and give it a new meaning - one centered on the people and stories behind the journey. We transform those stories into fashion. Through clothing, design and creative expression, we bring stories of migration, identity, culture, resilience and belonging into something that can be seen, felt and worn. Each piece becomes more than a garment; it becomes a way of carrying a story forward. BackWay is not about glorifying the journey or the dangers that come with irregular migration. It is about recognizing the humanity within it - and creating a space where people can tell their stories on their own terms.

As we grow, BackWay aims to become a platform where fashion, culture, community and music come together to celebrate different journeys and perspectives. Because we believe that where you come from is part of who you are, and where you've been can shape where you're going.
